CIM tutor, Ann Prayle’s Top Tips!

We asked our Certificate Course Manager, Ann Prayle, for her top 3 tips for students studying for their CIM qualification. Here’s what she said:

1. Commit yourself to the goal and focus on the prize – It’s your qualification and your opportunity so make it your responsibility. Not your tutor’s, not your study centre’s and not CIM’s. Excuses sound fine but they don’t generally help with passing exams.

2. Immerse yourself in the topic so you can apply your understanding – it shouldn’t just be about reading lists, assignment briefs and handouts from your tutor although they are all important. Read around what you are learning about to get greater depth to your understanding and some real life examples. Yeah we know it’s a lot but use your commute to do this instead of reading the Metro. Ask your colleagues at work about how your organisation tackles the subject you are learning about. If you know how it’s done it’s easier to remember.

3. Plan – everything. Time, workload, time off for that all-important relax. Get buy-in from those around you early on. Get someone else to wash up or take the cat to the vets. Plan what you are going to do, build in contingencies in case the cat is quite poorly, and stick to it. It will be worth it in the end, promise.
